Drawings, Sculptures and Artwork Inspired by the Odyssey
- Many paintings have been drawn not only inspired by the Odyssey and its themes but of the Odyssey’s story itself. Many drawings have been made and we have chosen to include drawings drawn of the Odyssey and drawings inspired by the Odyssey. Paintings drawn of the Odyssey are often drawn of the important themes like his battles, his journey and the obstacles he is facing.
Odysseus by Jacob Jordaens (1600's)
This painting by Jacob Jordaens from the 1600 hundreds is of Odysseus being stuck in the Cyclops cave with his men. This is a painting directly inspired by the plot of the Odyssey.
This sculpture is situated outside a new art gallery in London. The creator of the culture Alexander Stoddart has made art for famous places, an example is Buckingham Palace. The architect of the gallery that hired Stoddart to create the sculpture says “These pieces illustrate scenes from the Odyssey, chosen as an allegory for the development of Modern art from 1900 to the present day.” For a new built art gallery to choose to use scenes from the Odyssey proves how important it has been for modern day art.
